Grace Bombulum

Grace on a geology trip to Mt. St. Helens, July 2023.

Mx. Grace Bombulum, M.S.

Greetings! I’m Grace Bombulum (they/them), a geologist whose journey through the wonders of Earth began in the vibrant landscapes near St. Louis, MO, where I was born and raised. My passion for understanding Earth’s geological intricacies was first sparked at St. Louis Community College (STLCC), where I took my first geology class. I originally pursued English and earned an A.A. in English Communications before switching majors and diving into geology at Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T), where I completed a B.S. in Geology and Geophysics with an emphasis in environmental and groundwater studies. I later earned an M.S. in Geology from the University of Missouri (MU), focusing on hydrogeology and economic geology.

My professional journey began as an intern hydrologist with the Mark Twain National Forest during my undergraduate studies. I later worked for 1.5 years as a district hydrologist on the Boise National Forest in Idaho, following a Pathways internship there during my master’s program. I then moved to Globe, AZ, where I served as the Minerals and Geology Program Manager for the Tonto National Forest, overseeing the entire geology program.

In 2025, I transitioned to the private sector and joined BHP’s Compliance and Engineering team in Miami, AZ. My current role focuses on water balance and water quality within BHP’s Legacy Assets portfolio.

I also have a strong background in teaching. I’ve tutored all introductory geology courses at STLCC and served as a Teaching Assistant at MU for four semesters, supporting both introductory geology and geomorphology labs. I currently teach Introduction to Geology (GLG101N1) every Spring semester at SCAC.

When I’m not immersed in the world of rocks, minerals, and water systems, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my spouse—hiking, paddle boarding, and exploring new landscapes. In quieter moments, I love diving into sci-fi and fantasy novels with a warm cup of coffee in hand.

I’m honored to contribute to the SCAC vision of Nṉee bi’at’e’ihii nłdzilgo ádanłzih, translated as “Upholding the power of Apache wisdom & knowledge,” and I’m excited to share my passion for geology with the SCAC community.”

Best,

Grace Bombulum (they/them)
